Speaker Application Information

We'll start with the basics...
What is your full name? *

Do you have a title that's relevant to the talk?

And phone number?

Which is your preferred contact method?

TED is a nonprofit devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics — from science to business to global issues — in more than 100 languages. Meanwhile, independently run TEDx events help share ideas in local communities around the world.

Let's talk about your idea worth sharing.

An easy what to think about framing your idea is to simply start with What if? or What happens when? For example: What if we used cellulose from an apple to grow a human ear? What happens when you plant fast-growing bamboo trees in a desert? What if we fundamentally misunderstand compassion?

Whatever your idea, make it simple and clear. Avoid technical terms and jargon. Your idea statement needs to be easily understood by anyone.
In one or two sentences, what is your idea worth spreading? *

Why must our audience hear this idea? And why now? *

Remember your first audience is about 2,800 people in Seattle's McCaw Hall.  Why will they want to listen? What makes the idea relevant to them?
Why are you the ideal person to give this talk? *

Sometimes it's about your professional credentials, sometimes not. What is it in your background or experience that connects you to this topic and gives you insight? Why is it personal or a passion for you?
What is a working title for your talk? *

Don't worry, we won't hold you to it. It just helps us think about it. Probably you, too.
If you are selected, what do you want the audience to get from your talk?

In storytelling heroes often return with a magic elixir. They've pushed beyond know boundaries, seen and experienced things others in the tribe have not, and now want to share their new knowledge. What do you want to share with us?
Have you spoken publicly before? *

If so, where and when? Please paste any audio or video links that feature you below.
If not, don't worry. We'll still consider you. Either way, please remember to upload a short video describing your idea to YouTube and paste that link below, too.
Do you currently live in the Pacific Northwest? If not, would you be able to travel here if we cannot find funding? *

TEDxSeattle speakers receive extensive coaching by our team and, on average, devote 50+ hours to the process.

Coaching starts with helping you clarify and distill your idea in writing. Speakers frequently write multiple drafts of their talk with input and guidance from their coach. Speakers also receive professional presentation coaching and can get help with their slide deck if needed. Pretty great, huh?
Are you willing and able to devote the time necessary to give your best TEDx Talk? *

What would a good coaching relationship look like to you?

We believe coaching is a reciprocal process. A big part of our job is to listen well and ask good questions. We'd love to hear your perspective.
Are you willing to communicate directly with the TEDx speaker team?

You may have staff that can help with writing, slide creation, or logistics. You're welcome to get support from any source. However, we require direct, unfiltered access to the speaker at all times when working on drafts and presentation. We find speakers whose schedules don't allow direct feedback are not a good fit for this process.
TEDx Talks

Even though every TED and TEDx event is slightly different, we'd like you to be familiar with the basic form and style. Please watch a few videos before submitting.
What are some of your favorite TED or TEDx talks?

Please paste links if you have them or give a brief description of the talks.
Why do these talks appeal to you?

Thank you! We’re excited to review your application.

Please scroll down and hit SEND to submit the form.

The Speaker Team will review your application and contact you if we find you to be a good fit for TEDxSeattle. Please be patient! We will reach out to potential speakers by mid-July 2017. We will not get back to every speaker applicant, but we can assure you we review each submission very carefully.

If have any other questions you can put write below or email info@tedxseattle.com.
